A page from a real chronicle

“The kitchen always smelled like my mother frying plantain.”

From the Origins chapter — the prompt: What did your kitchen smell like in the morning?

The kitchen always smelled like my mother frying plantain. Even when she wasn't, somehow it did. Real early — six in the morning — she'd be up, the radio on, that station from Port-of-Spain with the news and the calypso between. We had a small kitchen. You couldn't fit two people standing next to the stove. So my sisters and I would sit on the stairs and wait. She never let anybody help her. She said cooking was thinking time. I didn't understand that until I had my own kitchen, my own children, and somebody asked me what I was doing in there for so long. And I said the same thing. I said I was thinking.

— Mariella, age 71. Captured Sunday, May 12.

That's the whole product, in one paragraph. Her words. Her pacing. The plantain. The radio. Her granddaughter, twenty years from now, will hear her say it.

How it works

Slow questions. Real answers. Kept forever.

Step 01

Tell us who you're chronicling

Their name, your relationship, the chapters of their life you most want covered. We use this to choose which prompts to lead with.

Step 02

They answer one prompt at a time

Eighty prompts across eight chapters — Origins, Childhood, Coming of Age, Love, Career, Hardship, Joy, Legacy. They get progressively more intimate as the relationship between subject and prompt builds.

Step 03

Voice or text — their choice

They can record audio in the browser (we transcribe with Whisper) or just type. Either works. Long answers, short ones, fragments — all kept.

Step 04

Gentle polish that preserves voice

An AI editor cleans only literal stumbles — never adds flourishes, never "upgrades" their vocabulary. Every polish can be accepted, rejected, or hand-edited.

Step 05

Photos. People. A library.

Attach photographs to stories. Track the people they mention. Browse everything by chapter. Add to it for years.

Step 06

A hardcover-quality book

When you're ready, export a typeset PDF: title page, dedication, table of contents, chapter dividers, photo plates, closing letter. Beautiful at any age.

Pricing

Built so price never gets in the way of asking.

Questions

Things people ask before buying.

How does the audio recording work?

They click a button in the browser. The browser asks permission to use the microphone — that's it, no app to install. When they're finished, the recording is transcribed automatically and they can polish it before saving.

Will the AI rewrite ruin their voice?

No — preserving voice is the whole product. The rewriter is explicitly instructed to keep their idioms, regional phrasings, and vocabulary level, and to remove only filler like "um" and false starts. They can always reject the polish and keep the raw transcript.

Can multiple family members contribute?

Yes — Family ($99/yr) allows 5 contributors. Lifetime is unlimited. Everyone shares one chronicle of the same loved one.

Is there a printed hardcover?

A print-ready PDF is built into v1 — title page, dedication, chapter dividers, photo plates, closing letter. Direct hardcover printing is coming in v2; for now, you can take the PDF to any local print-on-demand shop.

Can I cancel?

Yes, any time. Your chronicle stays — we don't hold stories hostage. You can always export the PDF before canceling.

Where is the data stored?

For v1, in our own servers, encrypted at rest. We never sell or share family data. Stories are private to your chronicle. (See privacy notes in the welcome email.)
